A Letter From Our General Manager:
Tuesday May 26, 2020
Hello all,
As many of you are aware, we are now able to provide the full range of veterinary services in NY and we look forward to continuing to care for you and your pet(s). We will be reaching out to those folks who have been on our elective procedure wait list in the coming days.
Contrary to some reports, this does not mean a return to business as usual. As a New York State business, we follow the mandates for NYSForward. Our veterinary teams have been working very hard during this crisis to remain open and provide essential services, and protecting them is our first priority. If they are not able to work, our hospital cannot provide any of the essential or elective services that you need.
We will continue curbside check in and drop off appointments for our patients and clients during the initial re-opening process. While these appointments are challenging for all of us, they are the only way for us to ensure our team’s health and safety:
• Maintaining safety in veterinary practice is challenging. Social distancing is very difficult and the PPE requirements are extensive. We are working on structural accommodations in our buildings but we also need better access to PPE (or personal protective
equipment) supplies.
• PPE continues to be scarce, and any available N95 masks are exorbitantly priced with limits on quantity. These masks are required along with a face shield for our team in any situation with potential COVID 19 exposure.
• We have had some unfortunate experiences with clients who have disregarded our teams’ safety and health. We request that our clients respect our hard working team and follow the mandate for face covering when social distancing is not possible (such as
handing your pet to us). We also expect our clients to inform us if they are ill or exposed to COVID 19 so we can take the necessary precautions to care for their pets. If you are unable or unwilling to meet these essential requirements, we will not be able to see
your pet at this time. We need to follow the CDC and OSHA guidelines to keep our team as safe and healthy as possible during this pandemic. It is our responsibility as an employer to protect our team as best we can against work based transmission.
If you have any questions regarding our protocols, please email me at capitalvets@aol.com. I will be happy to touch base with you. We anticipate there will be more changes as this rollout unfolds, and we are continually looking to provide you with a safe and involved client experience. We appreciate your support as we all work through these challenges.
Respectfully,
Nancy Drumm
